Arsenal step up interest in German international midfielder

According to reports across England today, Premier League outfit Arsenal are ready to push their pursuit of Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka to the next level over the coming months.

Bavaria bound?

Goretzka, a 22-year-old all-action German midfielder, has been with Schalke since a move from Bochum in 2013, but his contract with Die Knappen is set to expire next summer.

As a result, speculation was rife earlier this summer that the 9-time capped international had agreed to join Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich on a free transfer in 12 months time.

However, Goretzka himself his since refuted these rumours, insisting that he has not agreed a deal with any club.

Gunners efforts

Barcelona, Manchester United and Liverpool have also been linked with moves for the goalscoring midfield star, who has already struck 4 times in 10 appearances for the German national team.

And, as per a growing number of outlets in England today, Arsenal, who are said to be long-term admirers of the talents of Goretzka, are now ready to step up their interest by opening negotiations with Schalke.

A bidding war for the services of the versatile midfielder could well erupt in January, with his current club no doubt eager not to lose their most prized possession for nothing next summer.
