Jamie Redknapp has hit out at Arsenal player Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who he thinks needs to do more.
The forward left BVB in the winter transfer window, and joined the Gunners, and according to the former midfielder, has not impressed yet.
He mentioned that Auba is wearing the shirt vacated by Thierry Henry, and that he’s not lived up to that promise yet, though many people will think it’s a high expectation indeed to have of the player.
He said on Sky Sports: “I think if he costs £60million you want him in the team, he scored last week, but he hasn’t hit the heights yet,
“I have got to be honest, I’ve been a little bit disappointed.
“I thought he would come into the Premier League – I think he’s almost caught the bug of what has happened to the rest of the players, a lack of confidence, not really playing with any zip that we expect him to come into this league.
“I think probably we will see the best of him next season. You are talking about a tremendous talent, but I do want to see a lot more, if I’m honest.
“He’s wearing that number 14 shirt but he’s not really covered it in glory yet, if I’m honest.
“I remember somebody who used to [Thierry Henry].”
One player who has done well since joining the club and who won’t have any critics for the moment is Henrik Mkhitaryan, who has certainly shown the people who doubted him during his time at Manchester United that he has enough talent to perform in the Premier League.
He seems happier at Arsenal, and it’s certainly the case that Arsene Wenger has far more trust in him than Jose Mourinho ever did, and it seems evident it’s paying off when you look at the player’s style of play and output – something Alexis Sanchez can’t say.
