Arsenal reportedly spoke to West Ham about signing Issa Diop & Emile Smith Rowe may join Wolfsburg

Arsenal & West Ham’s Issa Diop

The Mirror on Thursday report that Arsenal have previously spoken to West Ham about French defender Issa Diop.

According to the red-top, Unai Emery enquired about the availability of the 22-year-old centre-half.

Relying on a report from French website Foot Mercato, the Mirror claim:

Arsenal boss Unai Emery made an enquiry over Diop three weeks ago, with West Ham requesting £65 million for his services.

That price-tag seems to be prohibitively high for Arsenal.

Diop is under contract at West Ham until 2023.

Issa Diop: 2018-19 stats

In his first season in the Premier League following a move from Ligue 1 side Toulouse, Diop played 33 Premier League games for West Ham.

Diop scored one goal in the league in a 3-1 home win against Fulham. The defender also found the target in the EFL Cup.

In total, Diop played 38 matches for West Ham in 2018-19.

Arsenal’s search for new defenders

Unai Emery is chasing new defenders in the final days of the transfer window.

The Gunners have been trying to sign Celtic’s Keiran Tierney all summer.

When it comes to possible centre-back targets, Barcelona’s Samuel Umtiti and Daniele Rugani of Juventus have both been linked in recent days.

At the same time, Laurent Koscielny is looking for a way out of the Emirates Stadium.

Shkodran Mustafi could also leave if the right offer comes along.

Emile Smith Rowe may join Wolfsburg

In other Arsenal transfer news, midfielder Emile Smith Rowe may join Wolfsburg on loan.

The Independent claim that Wolfsburg are hoping to wrap up a deal imminently:

Wolfsburg hope to complete a season-long loan move for Arsenal starlet Emile Smith Rowe this week after positive discussions with the club.

19-year-old Smith Rowe signed a five-year deal with the Gunners in 2018.
