Arsenal set unwanted record during Man City game

Arsenal set unwanted record during Man City game

Arsenal vs Manchester City

Arsenal welcomed Manchester City to the Emirates on Saturday afternoon.

Ahead of kick-off, given Arsenal’s dismal record against the Premier League’s top sides of late, and Man City’s superb form, a win for the latter was widely expected.

To the hosts’ credit, however, they actually looked the much better of the two sides for the opening 50 minutes.

Arsenal even took the lead on the half-hour mark via Bukayo Saka.

However, the tie was turned on its head when Granit Xhaka pulled down Bernardo Siva in the Gunners box, handing City a penalty, which Riyad Mahrez scored.

Arsenal set unwanted record

Shortly after the equaliser, Gabriel was sent off for Arsenal after picking up a pretty silly second yellow card when he body-checked Gabriel Jesus in the middle of the pitch.

And, after the Brazilian’s sending off, it has been revealed that Arsenal have set an unwanted record.

As per Opta:

Arsenal have become the first side in Premier League history to receive 100 red cards, with the Gunners having 11 players sent off under Mikel Arteta in the competition, also more than any other side since his first game in charge.
