Aubameyang’s Arsenal stint
Since his arrival in north London, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has cemented himself as one of the top forwards in the English top-flight.
The former Borussia Dortmund hitman has, in total, racked up 95 appearances across all competitions for Arsenal.
Aubameyang’s first full season with the Gunners saw him net 31 and assist eight in 51 outings across all competitions, whilst also bagging himself the Premier League Golden Boot for the 2018/19 campaign.
The Gabon international has also carried his scintillating form into the current season, scoring 17 and assisting one in 25 Premier League outings.
Aubameyang now has less than 18 months remaining on his current deal, though.
And there was talk earlier in the season that Spanish powerhouse FC Barcelona had made the Arsenal standout their main January target.
That move, of course, didn’t materialise, with Aubameyang himself addressing transfer rumours in January, stating that he loves Arsenal and is committed to the club.
But rumours of a potential Aubameyang transfer are still circulating, with Serie A high-flyers Inter Milan the latest club linked with a move for the 30-year-old.
Mikel Arteta has since spoken about Aubameyang, with the Spaniard stating that he is hopeful Arsenal can convince him to stay. But Arteta also conceded that Aubameyang wants to play in the biggest competitions with the best players.
Now, the Mirror have reported that Arsenal are ready to try and relaunch contract negotiations with their star man.
The report from the Mirror claims that Aubameyang put contract talks on hold last autumn because he was frustrated at Arsenal, and is desperate to play in the Champions League, a competition Arsenal don’t look like qualifying for once again this term.
But Arsenal are said to be keen to try and retain their top scorer. However, the Mirror also claims that the north London outfit want to discover Aubameyang’s intentions, as he will have just 12 months left on his current deal when the summer window opens.
