Arsenal put Hector Bellerin up for sale, defender open to exit

According to reporters Ian McGarry and Duncan Castles on The Transfer Window podcast, Arsenal are considering selling Hector Bellerin this summer.

Bellerin has endured a difficult spell at the Gunners recently after suffering an ACL injury against Chelsea.

However, Bellerin marked his return to action earlier in the year, just before the football was stopped by the coronavirus pandemic.

Listeners have been told:

It’s our understanding that Hector Bellerin… is someone who is available for a transfer.

The player himself is willing to move away from London.

How much would Arsenal want for Bellerin?

Now 25, Bellerin is under contract until 2023.

According to Duncan Castles, the Gunners would want around 40 million pounds for their Spanish international right-back.

PSG & Inter Milan are interested

Two clubs are linked to Bellerin: PSG and Inter Milan.

The Transfer Window Podcast claim both clubs have “registered an interest” regarding Bellerin – although that seems short of saying either clubs have opened actual talks over the possible deal.

PSG obviously have the reserves to fund any deal for Bellerin, while Inter Milan also appear to have cash too following Mauro Icardi’s move to Paris, while Lautaro Martinez could join Barcelona in a 111 million euro deal.

Is Mikel Arteta keen on Bellerin leaving Arsenal?

The way Duncan Castles tells the story, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta would far prefer Bellerin to remain in his squad next season:

It’s worrying for Arsenal in that Bellerin had reestablished himself in the team.

He is very much Mikel Arteta’s first choice at right-back.

There isn’t an obvious second-choice right-back in the squad who (Arsenal) could promote into that position.

Listen to the Arsenal, Bellerin story below

The discussion can be heard at the start of the podcast.

So how likely is it that Bellerin leaves Arsenal?

Bellerin is Arsenal’s vice-captain, and back in May he discussed how he’s taken on a role of helping youngsters at the club:

I think it’s really important to support young players to be who they are, it can be hard coming into a dressing room when you have senior players questioning why you are doing something or wearing something but it’s so important that the next generation are true to themselves.

If I can help them do that then I am very happy to do so.

From the football side, Mikel Arteta when he was at Arsenal as a player would give me financial advice and even life advice. Even then he was showing the leadership qualities back then that makes him a manager.

It means the world to me to have young players looking up to me in the same way.

Those comments would seem to suggest that Bellerin had no plans to leave Arsenal anytime soon.

However, Arsenal fans might start comparing Bellerin’s position to another former Spaniard: Cesc Fabregas.

Like Fabregas, Bellerin has been at Arsenal since he was a teenager.

Fabregas left the Gunners for Barcelona when he was 24-years-old.

Could Bellerin now follow Cesc’s footsteps?
