Arsenal players to regain 5 per cent of wages following FA Cup victory

Arsenal down Chelsea

Arsenal and Chelsea went head-to-head this past Saturday, for the final piece of silverware up for grabs in England this season.

The tie, of course, represented a huge one for both managers, as Mikel Arteta and Frank Lampard went in search of their first piece of silverware since taking their respective spots in the dugout.

Saturday’s match held even more significance for Arsenal, though, as it represented their final shot at clinching Europa League football for next season, following their dismal 8th-place Premier League finish.

The Gunners’ hopes appeared to be fading quickly at Wembley, however, when the in-form Christian Pulisic fired the Blues into the lead inside five minutes.

Luckily for Arsenal, though, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was also on fire on Saturday.

After being brought down by Cesar Azpilicueta, the Gabonese hitman stepped up to covert the ensuing spot-kick 28 minutes in.

Aubameyang then gave Arsenal the lead after 67 minutes, with the north Londoners having managed to hold out for a 2-1 victory.

Arsenal players earn some of their wages back

As well as adding a trophy to their collection and finding a way into Europe, meanwhile, Arsenal’s players are also set to benefit financially from their win over Chelsea.

The Covid-19 pandemic hit football clubs around the world pretty hard, with the Gunners’ players and coaches having taken a 12.5 per cent pay cut.

However, as per the Telegraph, Arsenal’s players are now set to get 5 per cent of those wages back, due to their qualification for the Europa League via the FA Cup.

One player who doesn’t appear to care too much about the extra revenue coming his way, however, is Emiliano Martinez.

The shot-stopper was recorded after Saturday’s clash being informed about the extra five per cent in wages. However, Martinez responded by stating that he simply doesn’t care about the money.
