Arsenal overhaul continues with Bruno Mazziotti leaving from the performance team

Who is Bruno Mazziotti

After departing PSG, Bruno Mazziotti came to Arsenal after head of physiotherapy Chris Morgan moved to Liverpool.

The Athletic reported that he had links to Arsenal technical director Edu, from his time working with the Brazil national team.

Mazziotti has a close relationship with Arsenal’s technical director Edu after the pair worked together at top Brazilian club Corinthians and the Brazil national team.

Mazziotti has an excellent record of working with some of the biggest clubs and nations, like Brazil, but also Real Madrid and AC Milan.

Why has Mazziotti left?

Arsenal are in the middle of a big overhaul at the club, and changes in backroom staff are underway. Mazziotti had a short-term contract which expires this summer, and the club have decided not to renew.

Arsenal have experienced a number of serious season-altering injuries during the second-half of the campaign, to the likes of Kieran Tierney and David Luiz. But it is unlikely this was a factor in the decision. In fact, the number of overall injuries lessened after his arrival.

After a disappointing year on and off the pitch, the Gunners have decided to let many go.

Steve Bould has already departed, after being sacked on Saturday.

There are also plans to add to the recruitment team, with a headhunting company tasked with finding individuals.

Arsenal made 55 members of staff redundant last year during the pandemic, and are now restructuring instead of rehiring.

Richard Garlick has come in to help with further changes, and will take on many of the responsibilities previously carried out by the departed Huss Fahmy.

What does this mean for the summer?

It is unlikely that the changes will have any meaningful impact this summer.

Mikel Arteta has already explained that Arsenal have their transfer window plans laid out.

“What I can say is that we know what we want to do and there is a clear plan to put that together,” he said.

This is very much a long-term project, meaning many changes will be necessary to the squad and behind-the-scenes staff.

Arteta will be under much more pressure next season to improve things, and will want the perfect team to manage that.
