According to reports in the English media this afternoon, Premier League outfit Arsenal have kickstarted their attempts to tie midfielder Aaron Ramsey down to a new deal at the Emirates.
Ramsey, now 27, has been plying his trade in North London for ten years now, having arrived at the club as a raw youngster from Cardiff City in 2008.
The Welsh international has gone on to rack up over 200 Premier League appearances for the Gunners, though persistent injury troubles have often held the goalscoring midfielder back from showcasing his full potential on a consistent basis.
Nevertheless, Ramsey remains a key member of Arsene Wenger’s squad in the English capital, with the Cardiff youth product having reminded fans of the Gunners exactly what he is capable of with a splendid hat-trick versus Everton on Saturday evening.
And, as per several outlets in England this afternoon, Ramsey’s performance against the Toffees has sprung the board at the Emirates into action, with negotiations now underway over a new deal for the 52-time capped international at the club.
Ramsey’s current Arsenal contract is set to expire in 18 months’ time, with Arsenal extremely keen to secure the midfielder’s long-term future due to the club’s limited options in the middle of the park.
However, negotiations are set to be complicated by the mammoth £350,000-per-week deal handed to Mesut Ozil by the Gunners last week, as well as the hefty financial packages of January arrivals Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
