Arsenal one of two teams in for Willian/Gunners preparing to offer three-year deal – Athletic

The reliable David Ornstein has, on Tuesday, provided some fresh insight into the potential next destination of Chelsea’s Willian.

Willian rejects fresh Chelsea deal

Willian has, of course, been a key figure at Stamford Bridge for the best part of seven years now.

All told, the Brazilian has notched 339 appearances for the capital giants, scoring 63 and assisting 62 along the way.

However, the winger’s stint at Chelsea now looks set to come to an imminent end.

Willian did sign a short-term deal recently, in order to see out the remainder of the Covid-19-hit campaign with Chelsea.

But with it since reported that Willian has rejected another contract offer from the Blues, it now looks almost certain that he will be departing the club in the near future.

Arsenal eyeing Willian

Willian’s agent recently claimed that his client has received offers from five different clubs.

However, as per the aforementioned report from David Ornstein, there are now just two sides in for Willian – Arsenal and an unnamed club.

It was also claimed on Monday that the Gunners were the frontrunners for the Brazilian’s signature, with Ornstein having now added that the north Londoners are preparing to offer Willian a three-year deal.

It’s worth noting that the lack of a three-year contract offer is thought to be behind Willian’s refusal to pen fresh terms with Chelsea.

Arsenal’s proposal, as per Ornstein, is unlikely to be the most lucrative from a financial perspective, but it is suggested that it would be the most enticing from a football perspective.
