Arsenal on the verge of Gabriel Martinelli signing but Markus Schubert reportedly set to snub Gunners

Arsenal & Gabriel Martinelli

Leading Brazilian news outlet Globo have reported that Arsenal are on the verge of signing Gabriel Martinelli.

Martinelli, an 18-year-old striker who is currently at Ituano, is reportedly set to sign a five-year contract with the Gunners.

Arsenal will pay six million pounds for the teenager, who has scored 10 goals and chipped in with six assists in 31 matches for Ituano.

Martinelli previously had a trial at Man United.

When will Arsenal sign Martinelli?

Globo report that the deal will be complete in the “coming days”.

The assumption is that the transfer will be closed this week.

Globo also note that Edu Gaspar, who is poised to become Arsenal’s new director of football, wasn’t involved in the Martinelli deal.

In another nugget of information, Globo add that Martinelli will be the tenth Brazilian to play for Arsenal.

The others include Edu Gaspar, Gilberto Silva, Andre Santos, Denilson, Eduardo da Silva, Gabriel Paulista, Juan, Julio Baptista and Sylvinho.

Markus Schubert’s deal collapses

Last week, the Independent reported that Arsenal were poised to sign Dynamo Dresden keeper Markus Schubert.

Indeed, eagle-eyed social media followers have noticed that Schubert’s girlfriend revealed on social media that she was heading to London.

However, in a blow to the Gunners, it’s now being reported that Schubert has rejected the option to join Arsenal.

The Daily Mail tell their readers the following:

Arsenal target Markus Schubert is poised to join Schalke.

The German believes there could be an opening for the No 1 spot at Schalke in the not too distant future, a path that is blocked by (Bernd) Leno at the Emirates.

William Saliba & Yunus Musah

Two more pieces of Arsenal transfer news.

After L’Equipe claimed that Arsenal have agreed terms with St. Etienne’s teenage centre-half William Saliba, there’s now a spanner in the works.

Yahoo France reporter Manu Lonjon has claimed that Arsenal need to satisfy two requirements.

Firstly, the Gunners need to offer £27 million, and secondly, Arsenal must agree to loan William Saliba back to St. Etienne for twelve months.

Lastly, Spanish paper El Desmarque have linked Valencia to Arsenal’s 16-year-old midfielder Yunus Musah.

Whether Valencia try to sign Musah, who has played for England at U17 level, remains to be seen.
