Arsenal ‘on the brink’ of tieing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang down to new 3-year deal

The latest speculation stemming from the English media this evening suggests that Arsenal are set to tie Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang down to fresh terms imminently.

Aubameyang continues to impress

The last couple of seasons have of course seen Aubameyang establish himself as not only Arsenal’s star man, but one of the Premier League’s finest performers.

The 31-year-old, who made the move to the Emirates in January of 2018, followed up a 31-goal haul in 2018/19 with a further 29 strikes this time around.

Crucially, Aubameyang also has a knack for finding the net when it matters most, a trait which proved absolutely crucial in Arsenal managing to salvage another disappointing campaign over the last couple of weeks.

After notching a brace in the Gunners’ FA Cup semi-final victory over Manchester City late last month, the Gabonese international was back at it again in the competition’s showpiece last weekend.

A Wembley showdown with Chelsea saw ‘Auba’ net both of Arsenal’s goals, to secure FA Cup glory, and qualification for next season’s Europa League.

‘On the brink’

As such, the complete and utter uncertainty surrounding the future of their club captain has understandably proven a major source of concern for all associated with Arsenal for some time now.

The prolific attacker’s current contract in north London is due to expire next summer.

And, whilst Mikel Arteta has repeatedly expressed his confidence regarding the prospect of Aubameyang penning fresh terms, to this point, there has been little in terms of concrete information on the former Dortmund man’s plans.

As outlined above, though, if the latest word stemming from the media this evening is to be believed, then developments appear imminent.

In a major claim on the part of the reliable Matt Law of the Daily Telegraph, Arsenal are said to be ‘on the brink’ of tieing Aubameyang down to a new 3-year deal.

A verbal agreement is said to have been forthcoming between player and club, over the terms of a contract running to 2023.

The finer details of the agreement are now all that remain to be ironed out, with an announcement potentially set to arrive over the coming weeks.
