Arsenal offer public vote of confidence to under-fire Unai Emery

Arsenal have this evening moved to offer their public backing to Unai Emery, amid widespread calls for the Spaniard to be sacked.

Arsenal struggle again

Emery’s men visited the King Power Stadium on Saturday evening, for a crunch meeting with top-4 rivals Leicester City.

The Gunners headed into proceedings aware that a defeat would majorly dent their hopes of securing a Champions League berth for next season, having already sat a full 6 points behind hosts Leicester.

When all was said and done at the King Power, though, Arsenal again failed to get the job done.

Second-half goals from Jamie Vardy and James Maddison sealed a 2-0 win for Brendan Rodgers’ men, catapulting the Foxes into 2nd in the Premier League table.

Arsenal, on the other hand, now sit 6th, a full 8 points off Manchester City in 4th, and with a -1 goal difference.

‘The right man for the job’

Unsurprisingly, Arsenal’s abysmal form of late has begun to result in mounting pressure on Gunners boss Unai Emery.

The north Londoners are currently in the midst of a run of just 1 win from their last 7 outings across all competitions, and even that came in the form of a last-gasp comeback versus Vitoria SC last month.

As such, with the club’s performances persistently leaving a lot to be desired, the likes of Jose Mourinho, Max Allegri and Mikel Arteta have all been tipped as potential installments on the Emirates bench.

Unai Emery, however, will be going nowhere anytime soon, based on the latest statement on the part of the Arsenal hierarchy.

During a club staff event earlier today, head of football Raul Sanllehi, and managing director Vinai Venkatesham, offered their full backing to Emery, assuring that the Spaniard is ‘the right man for the job’:

‘We are as disappointed as everyone else with both our results and performances at this stage of the season. We share the frustration with our fans, Unai, players and all our staff as they are not at the level we want or expect.’

‘Things need to improve to meet our objectives for the season, and we firmly believe Unai is the right man for the job, together with the backroom team we have in place. We are all working intensively behind the scenes to turn things around and are confident we will.’

‘We never take our fantastic support for granted. We hope we can all stick together and get behind the team in this challenging period, as together we are stronger.’
