Arsenal injury boost: Lucas Torreira trains ahead of Newcastle United trip

Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira has returned to training ahead of Sunday’s trip to Newcastle United, according to the Evening Standard.

The 22-year-old was withdrawn at half-time during Uruguay’s 4-1 win over Mexico.

Torreira was pictured wearing an ice pack, however, he has now recovered ahead of this weekend’s Premier League fixture.

Ahead of the Gunners’ trip to Tyneside, Lucas Torreira is back at London Colney on Tuesday.

He trained with the likes of Mesut Ozil, Alexandre Lacazette and Hector Bellerin.

It was feared that Torreira may have been a doubt for the game against Newcastle after picking up a knock on international duty.

However, even with the boost, Unai Emery is unlikely to pick the 22-year-old.

The new manager has preferred the partnership of Matteo Guendouzi alongside Granit Xhaka.

Matteo Guendouzi believes that his impressive pre-season form helped him earn his place in Arsenal’s line-up.

Guendouzi said:

“I think it weighed in the balance and it gave me the opportunity to start the league games.

“I knew how to answer this. It’s up to me to keep working so that the team can win as many games as possible.

“In any case, at Arsenal, I have everything to progress. And we have everything to make a great season.”
