Arsenal’s first summer signing?
Arsenal have been linked with a move for CSKA Moscow striker Fedor Chalov, after the Russian scored 15 goals in 30 games last season.
The Gunners will no doubt need to strengthen this summer if they are to mount a challenge for the top-four.
Unai Emery was only able to manage a fifth-placed finish in the Premier League in his debut campaign.
A Champions League spot was possible if Arsenal won the Europa League, but they were comfortably beaten by Chelsea in the final last week.
If Arsenal had qualified for the Champions League, that budget could have been up to £100 million.
With a budget so small, Emery will no doubt be looking for bargains, and CSKA Moscow striker Fedor Chalov could prove to be one.
Chalov in, Aubameyang out?
According to Sky Sports, Arsenal are interested in the Russian.
Their report claims that ‘Arsenal are one of a number of top clubs monitoring young Russian striker Fedor Chalov, Sky Sports News understands.’
Sky name Monaco and Sevilla as clubs who are also interested in the Russian.
Bar that, information is pretty sparse.
The Russian has three years left on his contract and no transfer fee was mentioned in Sky’s report.
Chalov finished top goalscorer in the Russian Premier League last season, with 15 goals.
Interestingly, this signing would produce more worry than excitement.
That is because with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang being linked with a move to China, Chalov’s arrival could spell the former’s departure.
