Ligue 1 outfit Monaco have this afternoon confirmed the loan signing of Atletico Madrid outcast Gelson Martins.
Martins, a 23-year-old winger, had been plying his trade with La Liga giants Atletico since last summer.
The Portuguese international impressed during the early years of his career with Sporting CP, with his pace, flair and eye for goal having eventually seen Atletico snap Martins up as a free agent after the termination of his Sporting contract.
However, to this point, the versatile wide-man majorly struggled for game-time at the Wanda Metropolitano.
All told, Martins managed 8 La Liga appearances this season, just 1 of which came as a start.
As such, despite Martins having only been on the books of Atletico for half a season, rumours from the likes of Cadena Ser and more had intensified of late that the 21-time capped international was free to depart the Spanish capital this month.
Such reports led to subsequent claims that Premier League outfit Arsenal, who were hotly-tipped as a potential destination for Martins last summer, were back on the trail of the Portuguese attacker.
The Gunners are known to be on the lookout for reinforcements in attacking areas this month, with all of James Rodriguez, Denis Suarez and Yannick Carrasco having also been linked with potential moves to the Emirates.
However, Martins is one individual who will certainly not be arriving in North London before the close of the winter transfer window this coming week.
The pacy wide-man has this afternoon secured a loan move to French giants Monaco, until the end of the season:
