Former Arsenal defender Lauren has this evening revealed his opinion that the Gunners would be wise to cool their rumoured interest in Bayern Munich midfielder James Rodriguez, in favour of reigniting their chase of Barcelona’s Denis Suarez.
Suarez vs Rodriguez
Arsenal’s pursuit of midfield reinforcements this month has been no secret, with the North Londoners having been linked with a whole host of names across the continent.
Of these individuals, out-of-favour Barcelona man Denis Suarez has been the most persistently-touted with actually making the move to the Emirates.
In fact, a number of reports over recent weeks went as far as to suggest that the Spaniard was on the verge of joining the Gunners.
However, such claims were followed by a surprise update from Mundo Deportivo on Tuesday night, which confirmed that talks between Arsenal and Barcelona had collapsed.

As such, the capital outfit are since rumoured to have switched their attentions to Bayern Munich’s James Rodriguez.
Attacking-midfielder Rodriguez is currently on loan at the Allianz Arena from Real Madrid.
‘Look to sign Suarez above Rodriguez’
However, one individual who feels as though Arsenal would be making a mistake in signing Rodriguez over Suarez is club legend Lauren.
Speaking in an interview with Bwin earlier today, the former right-back pointed to Rodriguez’s track record at both Real and Bayern as reason for caution, before labelling Suarez ‘an excellent player’:
‘I’m not sure that Arsenal should be seriously considering James Rodriguez, even on loan. Rodriguez has got a lot of talent, but the warning signs are there. He hasn’t been able to settle at either Real Madrid or Bayern Munich. He comes with a massive wage bill. So Arsenal would have to make sure he was fully on board with the philosophy of the club.’
‘Rodriguez has played in the big games for the big clubs so there’s no doubting his talent. If Emery can get the best out of him then he could make a real impact on whether Arsenal qualify for next season’s Champions League. It’s a roll of the dice.’
‘Suarez should be Arsenal’s number one target this transfer window. He’s an excellent player and he’s having to fight with so many top players to get first-team football at Barcelona. Arsenal should look to sign him above the likes of Rodriguez, no doubt about it.’
