Is Alexis Sanchez Arsenal’s best player since Thierry Henry?
Martin Keown, not a man known for hyperbole, waxed lyrical about Alexis Sanchez on Match of the Day on Saturday night.
Whilst Alex Iwobi was a bit stunned to win the man of the match award after Arsenal’s 3-0 win over Chelsea, it was Alexis Sanchez who did much of the damage.
It seems inconceivable that some were doubting Arsene Wenger playing Alexis Sanchez up front, even up until the Chelsea game on Saturday.
Quite simply, Sanchez tore Chelsea apart and was, for many people, man of the match.
“I haven’t seen anyone of this quality for years”
On Match of the Day, Keown hailed Alexis, saying: “This fella is the icing on the cake, I haven’t seen anyone of this quality for years, since Henry. You just cannot take risks with him here, he picks his pocket [Gary Cahill] absolute quality.”
Keown continues on Sanchez, saying how he creates space and how the Chilean is able to bring other players in: “You can’t get tight to him. Cahill, David Luiz didn’t know how to cope with him. And it gives Arsenal that extra little bit of something. The Arsenal faithful have finally got a player that can make a difference. It takes a lot of things to be champions. But you need a player at the top of the team that he rest can believe in.”
