Arsenal interested in rivalling Everton for Andre Gomes

Some competition for Everton

Arsenal are reportedly interested in rivalling Everton for the signing of Barcelona’s Andre Gomes who has impressed in a loan spell at Goodison this season.

Gomes didn’t exactly enjoy the best of spells at Barcelona.

After joining from Valencia, Gomes struggled to make a strong impression at the Camp Nou and found himself on the fringes of the team.

As a result, Gomes joined Everton on a short-term loaning following the permanent signings of Lucas Digne and Yerry Mina.

Since then the Portuguese midfielder has been a key player for Marco Silva and has been pretty impressive during his loan spell.

Now, with the summer approaching, it will come as no surprise that Everton want to sign Gomes permanently.

Silva has already confirmed that but it may not be easy to tie him down to a permanent deal.

That is because Tottenham and Inter Milan have both been linked with a move in the past and now Arsenal could reportedly join the race to sign him.

Gomes to the Gunners this summer?

According to a report by ESPN, Arsenal are monitoring Gomes’ situation ahead of the summer transfer window.

They claim that ‘Arsenal have followed his performances in the Premier League with interest. However, there has not yet been any official contact between the Gunners and Barca over a transfer.’

Their report continues by explaining that Unai Emery is a fan of the player and considered signing him last summer.

While it was not a priority then, Aaron Ramsey’s Juventus departure will leave the Gunners needing someone to fill that gap.

However, ESPN point out that ‘Everton are also hopeful of making the loan move permanent when the campaign ends.’

Safe to say, there is will be no shortage of interest in Gomes this summer.

As a result, Everton will need to get a deal done fast if they are to keep him at Goodison next season.
