As per a report from Football.London, Premier League giants Arsenal are eyeing a summer swoop for Genk star Leandro Trossard.
Trossard, a gifted 24-year-old winger who can also play in a more central role, is highly-regarded in his home country of Belgium.
The Red Devils’ U21-international, who was included in two of Roberto Martinez’s senior squads last year, came up through the youth ranks of Genk, before breaking into the club’s first-team setup on a consistent basis during the 2016-17 campaign.
And, after seeing his stock continue to grow over the course of an injury-hit season last time out, during which he directly contributed to 12 goals in just 19 appearances, Trossard has since taken his game to another level altogether to this point in the current campaign.
The pacy wide-man, who generally lines out on the left before cutting in onto his trusty right foot, has notched a hugely-impressive 17 goals and 8 assists thus far this season.
Arsenal interest confirmed
As such, Trossard’s stellar showings at the Cristal Arena have unsurprisingly seen a number of European heavyweights begin to express an interest in the Belgian’s signature.
Speaking in an interview with Sporza late last year, Trossard’s agent, Josy Comhair, confirmed that Arsenal were one such club, with the Gunners having been following the pacy winger since the summer:
‘It is indeed very clear that Leandro continued to play football at Genk for a year.’
‘First and foremost because his development is not yet complete. Secondly because he is a Genkie from top to toe. But mainly because he is the current team has the feeling to grab a prize.’
‘Leandro wants to leave Genk through the big gate.’
‘I contacted representatives from Arsenal and Tottenham.’
‘At Tottenham, nobody has wanted to confirm that Trossard is an option.’
‘But Arsenal does.’
‘They told me that Leandro has a very interesting profile for them and that they have been following him since August. And they also added that it was a good choice to stay in Genk for another year. They said they have kept a close eye on him.’
Trossard to the Emirates?
And, after the North Londoners were rumoured to have been priced out of a January swoop for Trossard, the aforementioned update from Football.London has since suggested that the board at the Emirates are ready to reignite their pursuit of the Genk star in the summer.
Arsenal are said to be readying a bid in the region of £25 million for Trossard, with the 24-year-old viewed as a more affordable option than the likes of Nicolas Pepe and Ivan Perisic:
Arsenal eyeing Leandro Trossard of Genk. At c. £25m a more affordable option than other wingers on the radar, with a great goal return in Europa League. He’s keen on move but not a done deal at all yet. https://t.co/dkvrIx25tp
