Arsenal hire Mikhail Zhilkin
Eagle-eyed social media followers have discovered that Arsenal have added a new member to their backroom staff.
Mikhail Zhilkin is the new Data Scientist at Arsenal, according to his bio on LinedIn.
Zhilkin has been hired by the Gunners this month.
In his LinkedIn bio, Zhilkin has described himself saying:
Data scientist interested in rational thinking, automation, data visualisation, machine learning, association football.
Zhilkin previously worked for Candy Crush as their Senior Data Scientist.
What will Zhilkin do at Arsenal?
According to Training Ground Guru, Zhilkin will used his analytical skills to help Arsenal.
Zhilkin has the educational background to excel in that job, even if he has no experience of working in football.
He is a Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology graduate, and has a Master of Science in Applied Physics and Mathematics.
Specifically, it’s claimed Zhilkin will focus on injury and physical data.
That will be welcomed news to Arsenal fans, as the club have been dogged in the last decade by significant injury problems to potential star players.
Arsenal & 2018-19 Premier League
Last season was rough for Arsenal.
They finished sixth in the Premier League to qualify for the Europa League once again.
However the year ended on a high as Arsene Wenger walked away from the Gunners after 22 years.
A major transition is now underway at the Emirates Stadium, starting with Unai Emery’s appointment.
Arsenal are also busy in the transfer market. Five players have already joined the Gunners: Bernd Leno, Stephan Lichtsteiner, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi.
The likes of Jack Wilshere, Santi Cazorla and Per Mertesacker have all left the club.
