Arsenal forgotten man Mathieu Debuchy set for Nice switch

As per a number of reports in the French press this afternoon, out-of-favour Arsenal defender Mathieu Debuchy is set to return to Ligue 1 over the coming days, having agreed a deal with Nice.

The former French international, who arrived at the Emirates from Newcastle United in 2014, endured a tough time in North London over his 3-year spell.

Despite some promising early performances for Arsenal, Debuchy quickly fell victim to the club’s long-running injury curse, spending a number of lengthy spells on the sidelines during both the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons.

He was sent on loan to Bordeaux for the second half of the 2016 campaign, though the French top-flight side decided against making his move permanent.

Moving on

The combination of Hector Bellerin’s emergence and further injury problems have since made the 31-year-old surplus to requirements at the Emirates, with Debuchy expected to undergo a medical at last season’s Ligue 1 surprise package Nice over the next 48 hours, ahead of a permanent transfer.
