Arsenal fans have been pleasantly surprised by the first half-performance of Mesut Ozil.
The 29-year-old has adopted a deeper role in the German midfield at Wembley Stadium this evening.
The Arsenal midfielder is parenting Ilkay Gündogan and the pair have so far impressed.
Half-Time: England 0-0 Germany
Having enjoyed a number of leisurely wins during World Cup qualifying, Gareth Southgate’s side are being presented with a real test at Wembley.
Although, a depleted England side, which includes four debutants, has more than held their own against the defending World champions Germany.
Some excellent England defending has denied Germany on a number of occasions, with Jordan Pickford and Phil Jones particularly impressing.
England have also looked strong going forward, especially in their wide areas with Tottenham wing-backs Danny Rose and Kieran Trippier.
Ozil’s new role
Predominantly played in the number 10 role for Arsenal, this evening for Germany, Ozil has adopted a deeper-lying role.
The World Cup winner has looked mighty effective in that position, creating plenty of opportunities for the German’s, making more accurate passes than any other player (47).
Ozil has also managed an impressive 92 percent pass success rate.
His performance this evening has Arsenal fans complaining about where this Ozil has been for them.

As soon as Ozil picks up the ball in Englands half, the entirety of Germany’s attacking players make runs. They know that he can make passes that will find them.
