Jamie Vardy to Arsenal – could it happen?
The Guardian were the first to break the story of Arsenal triggering the Leicester striker’s release clause tonight, which is believed to be 20m pounds.
Wenger is known to be on the hunt for an alternative striking option to Olivier Giroud, and Jamie Vardy is certainly that; in fact you couldn’t really get two more different strikers.
But even if this story does have legs – and there’s some suspicion about the timing of the leak, with Arsenal holding an end of season Q&A tonight – Arsenal fans are far from unanimously overjoyed by it.
Firstly, although he was sensational last season, he’s 29: that’s quite old in striker terms.
Secondly, there’s the issue of whether his counter-attacking style would suit Arsenal’s more possession-based game.
Looks like a 50-50 split among the fans so far…
Arsenal have triggered Jamie Vardy's release clause. Wenger going for the premier league. #afc

Vardy would convert a LOT more assists from Ozil than Giroud.
He's way faster & more direct. #afc

If you are not excited that Arsenal triggered 'a striker's release clause' then, I don't know.
If Vardy was Spanish, folks'd be mad excited.

We went from Higuain to Morata and now Vardy. Can't wait for Sanogo to sign a new contract next week.

Jamie Vardy at Arsenal would be a superb signing! Especially after Xhaka and Rodriguez (potentially)

No offence to Vardy but there are better players who are cheaper and younger who will fit Arsenals system better #AFC
