Supporters of Arsenal have flooded to social media this evening to vent their frustrations, after being denied a clear first-half penalty versus Crystal Palace.
Arsenal vs Palace
Unai Emery’s men are currently locked in action with the Eagles at the Emirates, in a crucial outing in the Gunners’ quest to secure Champions League football for next season.
Ahead of kick-off, Arsenal occupied the final of the Premier League’s top-4 berths, sitting level on points with Chelsea, and a point adrift of North London rivals Tottenham.
As such, it came as a major blow when the capital giants fell behind early on this afternoon.
With 17 minutes on the clock, a whipped Luka Milivojević free-kick from the right saw the unmarked Christian Benteke nod beyond Bernd Leno to put Palace in front.

Arsenal left bemused
The visitors’ opener, though, was far from the only talking point over the course of the opening 45 minutes at the Emirates.
Shortly before the interval, Arsenal were denied what looked to be a clear and obvious penalty, after Sead Kolasinac’s cross from the left was blocked down by Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
As showcased below, the Palace stopper’s arms were in a completely unnatural position when they made contact with the ball:
To the absolute bemusement of Arsenal’s players and fans alike, though, Jon Moss quickly waved away their spot-kick appeals, a decision which has since unsurprisingly led to a major backlash online:
Arsenal should have had a penalty there, looked a blatant handball from Wan-Bissaka.

Jon Moss is officiating and you’re wondering how we’ve been denied a penalty.

Obviously Jon Moss has Wan Bissaka in his FPL team. That was a clear penalty.

That’s another penalty we haven’t been given. Smh. English refs are mad.

So now we can use our hands in the penalty box and ref won’t give a penalty. New low levels of prem league referees. 👏👏👏
