Arsenal fans have gone crazy for Danny Welbeck after the unexpected saviour sent them through to the Europa League semi-finals.
The Gunners were travelling to Russia with a big 3-0 lead and were expected to breeze through to the next round.
Though, as we have discovered this week, it turns out that three-goal leads don’t count for much anymore.
That is because it was CSKA who got the first goal to really scare the Arsenal fans.
With Roma and Juventus both turning around three-goal deficits on Tuesday and Wednesday, it was far from impossible that CSKA could too.
That dream took another step towards being a reality when the Russian’s scored a second goal, really putting the pressure on Arsenal.
Not only that, the Gunners were stunned and lost complete control of the game as the Russian side pushed for what would be a winner.
Though, the Arsenal fans have one unexpected hero to thank for sending them through to the next round of the Europa League.
That is because much-criticised forward Danny Welbeck was on hand to calm any nerves that Arsenal fans had.
With Alexandre Lacazette having a pretty poor night, Welbeck stepped up when he was played through on goal by Mohamed Elneny.
The Egyptian slid Welbeck in with a sublime through ball and Welbeck scored with an equally impressive finish.
That meant that CSKA would need two goals just to take the game to extra time and it’s safe to say that it was always going to be beyond the side.
So, that meant that Welbeck’s goal put Arsenal through to the Europa League semi-finals and put them within touching distance of a European trophy.
Danny Welbeck to the rescue!

That was world class from Welbeck. Turn, run, 1-2, finish. Thought I was watching Thierry Henry for a minute.

Welbz one of the few players that has attacked with any intent. Lacazette has been a ghost.

Five goals in his last four starts for Danny Welbeck. Perfect form going into the World Cup this summer. #CSKAvAFC

Welbeck has been the one attacking player trying to make things happen for Arsenal. Hasn’t always worked mind you, but he’s been direct and run at CSKA, making things uncomfortable for them. The turn on the touchline in the build-up was wonderful.

Danny Welbeck. Not the hero we deserve, but the one we need.
