Arsenal fans have mixed feelings over Maitland-Niles following MOTM performance vs Southampton

Arsenal fans have mixed feelings over Maitland-Niles following MOTM performance vs Southampton

Arsenal’s supporters have taken to social media in numbers this evening, to react to the latest impressive display on the part of on-loan midfielder Ainsley Maitland-Niles.

Pereira & Robinson on target

AMN was back in action a short time ago, as West Brom faced off with Southampton.

The Baggies of course headed into proceedings still entrenched in the Premier League relegation zone, but no doubt buoyed by a stunning 5-2 drubbing of Chelsea last time out.

And, when all was said and done at the Hawthorns this evening, the upturn in form being enjoyed by Sam Allardyce’s men only continued.

A dominant display, during which the hosts again showcased their new-found attacking flair, eventually saw West Brom emerge on the right side of a 3-0 scoreline.

Matheus Pereira opened the evening’s scoring just past the half-hour mark, slotting home confidently from the penalty spot.

And it was two just minutes later, when Matt Phillips got on the end of Mbaye Diagne’s fine delivery to the back post:

Then, twenty minutes from time, Callum Robinson added his name to the scoresheet for the 3rd time in two games, killing off any remaining hope of a Southampton comeback with a fine lofted finish beyond Fraser Forster:

AMN starring

In turn, on the back of yet another stellar showing, it has since come as little surprise to see a host of West Brom’s stars singled out for praise.

The likes of goalscorers Robinson and Pereira impressed throughout, with Sam Johnstone having kept the Baggies’ clean sheet intact with a fine spot-kick save late on.

None, though, have been more widely recognised for their individual exploits on Monday than Ainsley Maitland-Niles.

And one set of fans to have paid particularly close attention to the efforts of the 23-year-old were those of an Arsenal persuasion.

Maitland-Niles is of course on loan at the Hawthorns from the Gunners, having swapped north London for the West Midlands during the January transfer window.

The versatile English international, all told, has since gone on to impress with Sam Allardyce’s men, having established himself as an undisputed starter to this point.

This evening, meanwhile, their starring youngster has sparked something of a debate amongst the Arsenal faithful, some of whom would evidently like to see AMN handed a 2nd chance by Mikel Arteta.

Others, however, simply appear happy to see the midfielder raising his stock on the transfer market:
