Arsenal fans furious as Gunners humiliated by BATE Borisov

Bad day at the office

Arsenal fans are not happy in the slightest tonight as the Gunners were beaten by Belarusian side BATE Borisov in the Europa League.

The Gunners travelled to Belarus expected to dominate the game and probably win comfortably, with BATE having not played a competitive game since their clash with PAOK back in December.

Though, that was not the case with Arsenal falling to a 1-0 defeat.

Poor performance from Unai Emery’s side

In the main, Arsenal actually found BATE pretty hard to break down despite a bright start.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan almost opened the scoring within the first two minutes but was unable to convert his chance.

The closest Arsenal came after that was a header from Alexandre Lacazette which the Frenchman should have scored.

Unmarked at the back post, Lacazette was unable to get over the ball, putting his header over the crossbar.

Then came the sucker punch.

Stanislav Dragun scored a header on the stroke of half time, stunning both Arsenal fans and neutral fans.

It didn’t get much better after the break either.

Arsenal’s second-half performance was just as lacklustre, much to the displeasure of their fans.

Despite bringing on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Lucas Torreira and Denis Suarez, the performance hardly improved.

The Gunners would finish the game with just three shots on target.

To add to their horrendous performance, striker Alexandre Lacazette was given a straight red card and he will now miss the second leg and potentially more than three games should UEFA pursue a bigger ban.

Safe to say, Arsenal fans were furious with Arsenal’s display in Belarus.

Social media reaction

Gunners fans took to social media after the game to voice their displeasure.

Some even took aim at Unai Emery after their poor showing.

However, the majority of fans just couldn’t quite believe how bad they were and labelled it one of the worst performances in recent history.
