Arsenal fans express concern over one player vs West Ham

Supporters of Arsenal have this evening taken to social media in numbers to express their concern over midfielder Jack Wilshere, after the Englishman was the target of a number of heavy tackles during the first-half of the Gunners’ clash with West Ham.

The two sides are currently locked in action at the Olympic Stadium, with visitors Arsenal coming into proceedings on the back of a concerning showing at St. Mary’s on Sunday, culminating in a 1-1 draw.

The Gunners, despite holding the vast majority of possession, looked lacklustre in the final third, while yet another defensive mistake once again proved costly in allowing the Saints their only goal of the day.

West Ham, meanwhile, were no doubt full of confidence ahead of this evening’s clash, having dispatched of London rivals Chelsea at the weekend in hugely impressive fashion.

The lineups for tonight were announced an hour prior to kick-off, with David Moyes unsurprisingly sticking with the same side that looked so solid versus champions Chelsea on Saturday:

Arsene Wenger, however, made it abundantly clear that he was far from impressed with his side’s latest performance by introducing a quartet of new names to Arsenal’s starting XI:

Jack Wilshere, Olivier Giroud, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Alex Iwobi came in for Per Mertesacker, Sead Kolasinac, Aaron Ramsey and Alexandre Lacazette:

The early goings of the clash saw visitors Arsenal in control, looking typically slick and technical in possession, but struggle to carve out many real clear-cut opportunities.

Alex Iwobi did rattle the post with a rasping effort on the half-hour mark, while Marko Arnautovic had a goal ruled out for offside, but, for the most part, the two sides simply cancelled each other out throughout the opening 45 minutes.

While supporters of Arsenal were not overly concerned with the performance of their side versus the determined Hammers, one persistent talking point over the first half-hour of the matchup did have many of the Gunners’ faithful up in arms.

The talking point in question revolved around the rough treatment afforded to notoriously-injury prone midfielder Jack Wilshere, with Pedro Obiang having taken out the 25-year-old on several occasions early on.
