Arsenal ‘failed with a late attempt’ to secure Fabinho signing before Liverpool switch

According to Sky Sports News, Liverpool were not the only club to make a move for Fabinho this evening, with Arsenal having failed in a late attempt to secure the now-former Monaco star’s signature.

Brazilian deep-lying midfielder Fabinho has been on the books of Monaco since 2013, when the principality outfit agreed to sign him on a permanent basis from Portuguese outfit Rio Ave, following a successful 2-year loan spell at the Stade Louis.

And the 24-year-old has since gone on to establish himself as one of the finest midfielders in Ligue 1, proving an absolutely crucial member of Leonardo Jardim’s side that defied the odds to clinch the French top-flight title ahead of PSG last year.

And, though Monaco, after losing the likes of Bernardo Silva, Benjamin Mendy and Kylian Mbappe, looked some way short of the thrilling, dominant outfit of the 2016-17 campaign this past season, Fabinho nevertheless continued to prove a steady and consistent performer in the middle of the park, racking up 8 goals and 3 assists across all competitions.

Done deal

As such, rumours had continued to swirl in the media that the Selecao star would be on the move this summer, with the likes of PSG and Juventus named as potential destinations.

But, in a rapid and brilliantly-executed piece of work on the transfer market, Premier League outfit Liverpool this evening surprisingly announced that they had secured a deal with Monaco for Fabinho worth 45 million Euro (plus 5 million in bonuses), with the Reds having announced the midfielder’s signature across their social media channels a short time ago:

‘Late attempt’

But, in an update quickly spreading across the media tonight, it is now being claimed that Fabinho’s future could very well have lay elsewhere in England, had another of the Brazilian’s suitors moved more swiftly.

As per a report from Sky Sports News, Arsenal also made an effort to secure a deal for Fabinho this evening, only to see their attempts fall short:
