Arsenal explain why Pablo Mari is missing for Leeds United clash

Arsenal have provided an official explanation for Pablo Mari’s absence from the squad that is set to face off with Leeds United this evening.

Arsenal vs Leeds

Arsenal are set to play host to Leeds United in a League Cup tie shortly.

The Gunners will head into the game on a fine run of form, which has seen them go unbeaten in their last six league outings following an awful start to the campaign.

Arsenal’s last clash saw them put Aston Villa to the sword by three goals to nil and fans of the north Londoners are no doubt expecting a similar result against Leeds tonight.

The Whites have had a nightmare start to the season, which has not been helped by injuries to key player such as Patrick Bamford and Kalvin Phillips – though the latter of that duo is back in the squad tonight.

Why Pablo Mari is missing for Arsenal vs Leeds

Ahead of the match, Arsenal would of course release their matchday squad an hour before.

The squad was pretty standard but, not too surprisingly, saw Mikel Arteta bench several first-team regulars, including Thomas Partey, Gabriel and Bukayo Saka:

Elsewhere, both Pablo Mari and Martin Odegaard were omitted from the entire matchday squad despite there having been no reports leading up to the game to suggest they were injured.

And whilst Odegaard’s omission remains a mystery, Arsenal have provided an explanation for Mari missing out, stating:

Pablo Mari misses out today’s matchday squad with illness (not COVID)
