Arsenal manager Unai Emery has called for “more” from Mesut Ozil ahead of this weekend’s clash against Newcastle United.
The German midfielder has made a slow start to the season and his work rate has yet again drawn criticism.
The Gunners are looking to secure their third consecutive win of the season on Saturday at St James’ Park.
Emery on Ozil: “He can improve, he can do more”
After three Premier League appearances, Mesut Ozil is yet to register either a goal or assist for Arsenal.
The 29-year-old has been constantly criticised for his work rate and effort during his time at the Emirates and that has not changed this season.
Emery believes that Ozil needs to become more effective for his team ahead of this weekend’s Premier League clash with the Magpies.
“I want to find with him the possibility to do the best, to make decisive passes, to do more near and in the box to score.
“He is working for the team to help us with his quality. But he is feeling like I am feeling. He can improve, he can do more.
“We will work, we will help him, give him the possibility on the pitch to be together, to find his qualities for us.
“I want to push them, I want to be demanding to prepare for this match – Mesut the same.”
