Arsenal confirm Kieran Tierney signing/Everton agree Alex Iwobi deal

Arsenal have this evening confirmed the signing of highly-regarded defender Kieran Tierney from Scottish champions Celtic.

Arsenal’s Tierney chase

Tierney, a 22-year-old left-back, emerged as a key target for Unai Emery’s Gunners this summer.

With Nacho Monreal entering the twilight years of his career, and Sead Kolasinac’s defensive capabilities still in question, the left-hand side of Arsenal’s backline was long-viewed as an area in need of strengthening this summer.

Tierney, meanwhile, regarded by many as the finest player on the books of Celtic, was identified as the ideal solution to the Gunners’ needs.

This subsequently resulted in a lengthy saga, during which Hoops’ boss Neil Lennon confirmed that his side had rejected a pair of Arsenal bids for their star stopper last month:

Celtic departure confirmed

The last couple of days, though, had seen speculation mount that the north Londoners were growing increasingly-confident of agreeing a deal with Celtic, before the news that the Gunners’ faithful were waiting for finally arrived last night:

And, just moments before the recently-passed English transfer deadline of 5pm, Arsenal have since gone a step further, by confirming Tierney’s addition on a long-term contract:

The fee involved is widely-reported to be in the region of £25 million.

Iwobi set for Everton

In further breaking news regarding Arsenal, meanwhile, as confirmed by the ever-reliable David Ornstein a short time ago, Everton have struck a deal with the capital giants over the signing of Alex Iwobi.

The sum involved in the Nigerian attacker’s potential Goodison switch is said to be £35-40 million, with the Toffees having been forced to switch their attentions to Iwobi after failing in a big-money swoop for Wilfried Zaha:

It now remains to be seen whether the deal goes through, with Everton having seemingly submitted the Iwobi paperwork before the 5pm deadline, and now in a race against time to complete all necessary formalities by 7pm:
