AC Milan vs Arsenal
The Gunners are back in Europa League action on Thursday as they head to AC Milan.
A decade ago Milan versus Arsenal would have been a standout clash in the Champions League, but both clubs have regressed in recent seasons.
Many Arsenal fans will be fearful ahead of the Rossoneri tie. Lots of people questioned Gennaro Gattuso’s appointment in the San Siro dugout, but the former Milan star has helped galvanise the team back to winning ways.
Milan come into the Arsenal game on the back of a 13-match unbeaten run. They’ve won their last six matches in a row.
And Arsenal? They are arguably at the lowest point of Arsene Wenger’s 22-year reign at the club.
Arsenal have lost four matches on the spin. Will Milan make it five?
Predicted line-ups: Arsenal Christmas tree formation
On Thursday morning, the Times have gone about predicting how the sides will line up at the San Siro.
Arsenal are predicted to field a Christmas tree formation: 4-3-2-1.
Up-top, due to injuries and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang being unable to compete in the Europa League, Danny Welbeck will start in attack.
Welbeck could have Mesut Ozil and Henrikh Mkhitaryan playing in the support roles, while Arsenal hope to win the midfield battle with Aaron Ramsey, Granit Xhaka and Jack Wilshere.
At the back, David Ospina will once again play in Europe.
Shkodran Mustafi, who has been awful for the much of the season, is yet again expected to start alongside Laurent Koscielny.
Hector Bellerin has been ruled out with a knee injury, meaning Calum Chambers should start at right-back again.
As for Milan, they are predicted to play a 4-3-3 formation.
