Arsenal bound? Lille star Renato Sanches reveals summer transfer blow, and hints at potential Gunners move

Euro 2016 star pulling up trees

Renato Sanches made history as the youngest ever Portuguese player to win a European championship or even score a goal for the national side, aged just 18.

On the books of Bayern Munich at the time, a baffling Premier League move to Swansea City followed, in which he failed to make any sort of impression on those tuning in to watch him play in any of his 12 appearances for the club.

However, a move away from Bavaria to French outfit LOSC Lille proved just the tonic for the then 22-year-old, and he has gone on to make 67 appearances for the Ligue 1 side across two seasons.

A regular in the side across the 19/20 and the beginning of the 20/21 season, a muscle injury saw him sidelined for the middle part of Lille’s title-winning season, but he found his place back in the centre of their midfield come the end of the campaign.

Now, however, he has just 18 months left to run on his contract in France, and is looking for a move away.

Sanches reveals Barca woes and drops Arsenal hint

Now, in a revealing interview with L’Equipe, Renato Sanches claimed that he knew who was interested in his services this summer, before namedropping both Arsenal and AC Milan.

He was also quick to play up the decision to depart Lille, saying:

I know I’m ready. If an offer comes in, I’ll find out what’s best for me”.

Pushed further, Sanches revealed that he was supposed to have signed for Barcelona in the summer, before injury put pay to that move:

“I was supposed to go to Barcelona this summer, but my injury ruined everything. That’s why it collapsed with Barça”

Now on the market, and with Barca having Gavi emerging, could the time be right for Arsenal to strike?
