Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta unsure if Kieran Tierney will be fit to face Newcastle

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta unsure if Kieran Tierney will be fit to face Newcastle

Arsenal held by Palace

Arsenal faced off with Crystal Palace on Thursday evening, in a Premier League clash.

The Gunners headed into the tie at the Emirates amid a solid run of form, having picked up four wins from their last four across all competitions.

The north Londoners, though, nevertheless entered their latest outing sitting down in 11th spot in the Premier League table, in desperate need of another victory to make up further ground in the race for European football.

But, when all was said and done in the capital, Arsenal were unable to come away with all three points.

A rather drab 90 minutes ended goalless, with Roy Hodgson’s Palace having actually edged the clash when it came to chances created.

Mikel Arteta provides update on Kieran Tierney

Arsenal’s hopes of downing Palace, though, were hampered ahead of kick-off by the last-minute absence of Kieran Tierney.

The Scotsman has been in sublime form of late, and though the Gunners of course shouldn’t be reliant on a left-back to act as their main attacking spark, it was clear that Tierney was missed.

The defender’s omission came due to muscle tightness, an issue that, on the face of it, didn’t sound overly serious:

However, speaking post-Palace, Mikel Arteta provided a rather concerning update on Tierney.

When asked if the 23-year-old is likely to be back for Arsenal’s next outing, versus Newcastle on Monday, the Spaniard explained:

“I don’t know depends how he evolves he’s gonna have an MRI scan tomorrow and we’ll see how he is.”
