As per a report from reliable German outlet Bild, RB Leipzig star Dayot Upamecano has made it clear to the club that he intends to move on this summer.
Upamecano, a 21-year-old central-defender, has emerged as one of German football’s standout performers over the last couple of seasons.
On the back of an impressive stint in Austria on the books of Red Bull Salzburg, sister club Leipzig snapped up Upamecano in January of 2017.
And the stopper, despite his tender years, has since gone on to establish himself as an absolutely integral member of the Bundesliga giants’ backline.
Upamecano has long been hailed for his defensive traits, with the French youth international combining a superb reading of the game, ability in the tackle and pace to burn, all wrapped up in an impressive physical stature.
To this point in the current campaign, the gifted youngster has started in 21 of RB Leipzig’s 25 Bundesliga fixtures, with Julian Nagelsmann’s men sitting 5 points adrift of table-topping Bayern Munich as things stand.
‘There are clubs that want me’
Upamecano’s talents, though, have inevitably begun to pique the interest of some of Europe’s biggest clubs.
Recent months have seen the likes of Arsenal, Barcelona and Bayern Munich named as keen suitors of the stopper.
As such, it is widely-assumed that this summer will mark the one in which Upamecano finally departs the Red Bull Arena.
The starlet himself, meanwhile, recently admitted during an interview with RMC Sport that he was the subject of interest from a number of clubs:
‘As I said, first I focus on Leipzig.’
‘And afterwards, I know that I am being courted, that there are clubs that want me.’
‘I will talk well with my agents and my parents at the end of the season. And we will make the right decision.’
Leipzig exit imminent?
And, as outlined above, any club with hopes of coaxing Upamecano away from Germany this summer have today been handed a boost.
This comes amid claims from SportBild (via Goal) that the Frenchman has informed Leipzig of his intention to move on.
The news is expected to be of particular interest to Arsenal, with the Gunners seemingly hopeful of pairing Upamecano alongside incoming youngster William Saliba at the Emirates over the seasons to come.
Any deal for the Leipzig star, however, will not come cheap, with the Bundesliga high-flyers expected to demand a fee of around £55 million.
