Arsenal blow as Arteta unsure if Kieran Tierney will play again this season & Martin Odegaard needs assessing ahead of Slavia Prague

Arsenal blow as Arteta unsure if Kieran Tierney will play again this season & Martin Odegaard needs assessing ahead of Slavia Prague

Arsenal vs Slavia Prague

Following their 3-0 drubbing at the hands of Liverpool last weekend, Arsenal’s 2020/21 Premier League season is all but over.

The Gunners sit 10th in the English top-flight, a full seven points off 6th, and 10 points adrift of 4th, with just eight games to play.

So, if they want to salvage their campaign, and secure some form of European football for next term, the Europa League is now their best avenue.

The north Londoners have been drawn against Czech outfit Slavia Prague in the competition’s quarter-finals.

At first glance, many may view this is a fairly easy draw for Arsenal.

However, Slavia have been impressive in Europe this season, and have already knocked Leicester – who sit 3rd in the Premier League – out of the competition.

Mikel Arteta on Tierney & Odegaard

Ahead of Thursday’s game, Mikel Arteta spoke to the media on Wednesday.

When doing so, Arteta provided updates on the fitness of a number of his players.

Kieran Tierney picked up an injury in the aforementioned loss to Liverpool at the weekend, and Arsenal have since confirmed that the full-back is expected to be out for 4-6 weeks.

In turn, when speaking about Tierney on Wednesday, Arteta admitted that he is unsure if the Scotsman will play again this season:

‘I don’t know. We’ll have to go day by day and see how the knee is reacting. On Tierney playing at the Euros: Again it will depend how things evolve in the next few weeks. He’s so keen to play for us before the end of the season.’

As for Martin Odegaard, the Arsenal boss revealed that the midfielder needs to be assessed ahead of Slavia Prague, as he has been carrying an injury since the international break:

‘We will assess him today how he’s feeling. He’s been carrying an injury for the last few days since he got injured with the national team.’
