Arsenal & Arsene Wenger reach an agreement

Arsenal & Arsene Wenger

Arsenal’s FA Cup win over Chelsea instantly restarted the conversation on whether Arsene Wenger will remain at the Gunners next season.

Wenger is out of contract imminently, while the Frenchman has been dodging questions about his next career move for months.

Speculation has been rife that the Arsenal board have presented Wenger with a two year contract extension, however, as fans have raged against the manager in another frustrating season, Wenger has so far not put pen to paper.

ESPN with the update

Over the weekend, the Sunday Express reported that Wenger has agreed a two year deal to stay at Arsenal.

The Express also revealed that Wenger’s deal will be wrapped up while the club seek to appoint a new sporting director, who will work alongside Wenger behind the scenes at the Emirates Stadium.

On Monday, ESPN have doubled down on the ‘Wenger is staying’ story, telling their readers the following:

Arsene Wenger will attend an Arsenal board meeting designed to resolve his future on Tuesday having already agreed the terms of a new two-year contract at the club as long ago as November, sources have told ESPN FC.

Sources have told ESPN FC, however, that Wenger wants to remain at the helm and that the broad outline of an extended contract was agreed, but not signed, six months ago.

FA Cup winners Arsenal will compete in the Europa League next season having finished the Premier League campaign in fifth.
