A trio of stars have this evening been forced to make-do with sharing the Premier League’s Golden Boot award.
PL final day
All 20 clubs were in action simultaneously this afternoon, on the final day of the Premier League’s 2018/19 season.
The historic title race was understandably the key talking point amidst the madness, as Man City and Liverpool continued to slug it out for supremacy.
Ahead of kick-off, it was the Citizens who held the advantage, having sat a point clear of Jurgen Klopp’s men.
And, when all was said and done, the champions held their nerve, surviving an early scare to eventually emerge with a deserved 4-1 win at Brighton.
Liverpool, meanwhile, also did their part, putting Wolves to the sword by 2 goals to nil at Anfield.
Golden Boot race
However, while it was City’s title win that inevitably grabbed the headlines, another major talking point across the 20 fixtures this afternoon was the Premier League Golden Boot race.
Ahead of the final day action, Mohamed Salah led the way on 22 goals.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Sadio Mane and Sergio Aguero, meanwhile, all sat on 20.
And, incredibly, 3 of these 4 went on to find the net this afternoon.
The one player not to have been on target was leader Salah.
While Aguero notched once versus Brighton, both Mane and Aubameyang secured doubles against Wolves and Burnley respectively.
As such, when all was said and done, after 38 Premier League games, all of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had notched 22 goals in the English top-flight.
The African trio will therefore share this season’s Golden Boot award!
