Arsenal ‘agree to sign’ Gabriel Martinelli after his Man United trial

Brazilian news outlet UOL Esporte are calling it.

They’ve reported that Arsenal have “agreed to sign” striker Gabriel Martinelli” from Brazilian club Ituano.

Martinelli is just 17-years-old, and he’s made a name for himself after scoring in domestic competition.

In the Sao Paulo cup, Martinelli scored an impressive six goals in four matches.

In the Paulista championship he scored another six goals while chipping in with three assists.

UOL Esporte note that plenty of clubs have been scouting Martinelli.

That’s included Manchester United, who previously invited Martinelli to have a trial at the club.

Martinelli took a picture with Paul Pogba during his Man United trip.

Barcelona also offered Martinelli a trip to display his talents.

Brazilian clubs Flamengo, Cruzeiro, Santos were also trying to sign the Ituano teenager.

How Arsenal won the race

Unai Emery’s side reportedly had the firmest interest in signing Martinelli, which helped convince the youngster to move to north London.

UOL Esporte also note that Martinelli will continue the tradition of Brazilian players at Arsenal.

They’ve included Gabriel Paulista, Andre Santos, Denilson, Julio Baptista and Gilberto Silva.
