Arsenal activate Nacho Monreal’s contract extension clause

Arsenal & Nacho Monreal

Nacho Monreal will remain at Arsenal for the immediate future.

That’s been confirmed by ESPN, who have reported that Arsenal have activated a contract extension clause in Monreal’s contract.

Now 32, Monreal’s present deal expires at the end of the season.

The Gunners had a one-year option to extend that deal, which they’ve now triggered. That now means Monreal will remain in north London until 2020.

Will Arsenal end up agreeing a longer term deal with the Iberian? ESPN report those longer term talks are on hold.

Monreal played at left-back for much of his Arsenal career, yet in recent times he’s moved infield to play on the left side of a three-man backline.

Under Unai Emery, Monreal has been in and out of the Arsenal team. He’s also suffered with injuries this season.

Monreal has chipped with with one goal in the league and two assists.

Aubameyang: Arsenal’s December player of the month

Arsenal have revealed that Gabonese forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has won the club’s December player of the month award.

Aubameyang closed out 2018 playing eight matches. He scored five goals and chipped in with two assists.

The African attacker has reacted to the award on social media.

While he was no doubt happy to win, Aubameyang couldn’t help but reference the “sh*t” match in which Arsenal were hammered at Liverpool.
