Argentina in trouble

South American football powerhouse Argentina are in serious danger of failing to qualify for the 2018 World Cup, having taken two points from their last three qualifiers.

Without the injured Leo Messi, Argentina once again faltered to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Paraguay this week.

They currently sit 5th in the standings, just one point above Paraguay and two above Chile. There are only four automatic World Cup places on offer.

Messi blocks Icardi call-up

Argentine TV show ‘Final Debate’ made a bold claim following this week’s poor showing against Paraguay.

Inter Milan star striker Mauro Icardi has played just eight minutes for the national team and the finger of blame is being pointed at none other than Leo Messi.

According to ‘Final Debate‘, Messi is still good friends with former Barcelona teammate Maxi Lopez. Now 23, Mauro Icardi nabbed Lopez’s wife – Wanda Nara – whilst the pair played at Sampdoria together.

Supposedly, Messi himself vetoed any Icardi national call-up. You would assume Messi wields a lot of power but is this story a little too far-fetched?
