Giovani Lo Celso has dealt Argentina a big injury blow ahead of this month’s World Cup.

The midfielder picked up a hamstring injury whilst in action for Villarreal over the weekend.

The 26-year-old is a key member of the Argentine squad and his absence would represent a massive loss for them.

Lo Celso suffers grade 1 hamstring tear

TyC Sport report that Lo Celso has suffered a grade 1 tear which makes him doubt for Argentina’s World Cup opener against Saudi Arabia on November 22.

Over the weekend, he was forced off with a hamstring injury after just 30 minutes.

On Monday, he underwent medical tests which revealed the grade 1 tear.

This typically takes around three weeks to recover from meaning he is likely to miss the first match.

The Albiceleste’s first game of Qatar 2022 is in exactly three weeks’ time from today leaving Lo Celso in a race against time.

Despite the injury, he is still expected to be selected by Lionel Scaloni as part of the squad, although his recovery will need to be assessed.
