Antonio Conte’s stance on taking the Manchester United job revealed

Antonio Conte’s stance on taking the Manchester United job revealed

Manchester United’s lowest Premier League day?

Manchester United had one of their worst, if not the worst day in their Premier League history as they found themselves on the end of a 5-0 humiliation by Liverpool at Old Trafford.

10 years and one day after their 6-1 loss to Manchester City, a Mo Salah hat-trick and goals from Diogo Jota and Naby Keita ensured that it was the Merseyside outfit that ran out comfortable winners in Manchester.

Fans streamed out of the stadium as Liverpool toyed with United after the first hour, showing quite clearly that it was Jurgen Klopp’s side who were the real title challengers this season.

However, current boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made his stance on leaving quite clear after the drubbing, saying:

“I have come too far, we have come too far as a group and we are too close to give up now”

But, with games against Tottenham and Manchester City to come in the next fortnight, Solskjaer will have to find a result somewhere if he is to avoid the executioner’s axe in the near future.

Conte’s stance on taking the Manchester United job

One name that has been continually thrown into the ring for the Manchester United job should it become vacant is Antonio Conte. The former Chelsea boss is out of work at present, having turned down the chance to join Tottenham in the summer.

However, Italian media have previously suggested that he would accept should the Red Devils call.

Is it the same now?

As per Samuel Luckhurst, of the Manchester Evening News:

Sources say Conte would want reassurances from United over the club’s direction and that he would not entertain the prospect of having ‘marketable’ players foisted onto him.

Clearly then, there would have to be some compromise from the club, but they would be able to lure the master tactician to Manchester should they find themselves forced to part ways with Solskjaer in the coming weeks and months.
