Antonio Conte reveals plan to revitalise Tottenham star’s career

Antonio Conte reveals plan to revitalise Tottenham star’s career

Tottenham struggle for goals

A big part of Tottenham’s struggles this season have been their woes in front of goal, whether it be with Nuno Espirito Santo or Antonio Conte at the helm.

The Lilywhites have scored just 11 Premier League goals, the lowest in the league save for Norwich, who have managed a meagre 6. Harry Kane, their star man, has contributed to just one of those, and there is no reliable backup for the Englishman should Conte wish to remove him from the firing line.

Tottenham travel to Brentford this evening in the hope of improvement, after their weekend clash with Burnley was called off due to severe weather conditions.

So, what is plan B if Kane continues to misfire, and how can he be rested in a month that will see the Lilywhites play nine games in 28 days?

Step forward, Steven Bergwijn.

Conte outlines plan for Steven Bergwijn

After making an instant impact with a goal against Manchester City on his debut, Bergwijn has since struggled in north London.

Making just nine appearances across all competitions this season, the Dutchman has just a solitary assist to show for it. In Antonio Conte’s direct 5-3-2 system, he, a winger, is one of the major losers.

Or is he?

Now, Conte appears to have given Bergwijn a chance to rebuild his Spurs career as a striker, revealing that he is training as a potential understudy to Harry Kane.

Conte explained:

“Steven is working and we are utilising him also in this position [and] in the three positions off the striker. Steven could be a good option on the day that I want to give a rest to Harry.”

Would this give Tottenham more goal threat?
