Chelsea 3 – Roma 3
Chelsea remain top of their Champions League group after a thrilling match against Roma on Wednesday night.
But the result didn’t please Antonio Conte, who saw Chelsea go from 2-0 up to 3-2 down.
David Luiz scored a stunner to fire Chelsea ahead, while Eden Hazard scored his first goal the season to double Chelsea’s advantage.
Aleksandar Kolarov brought Roma back into the game just before the break with a sublime solo effort.
And after the break, Edin Dzeko levelled with an incredible volley. The Bosnia then headed Roma in front after he was given far too much room in the Chelsea box.
Hazard salvaged a point for Chelsea with a header of his own.
Antonio Conte reveals his big mistake
After the game Antonio Conte opened up about his mistakes in the game.
Conte deployed Luiz in midfield in a major tactical shift, but after the match Conte seemed to admit his tactics didn’t work.
In his post match presser, Conte admitted he got his plans wrong:
I tried to protect the team with an extra defender in midfield, but the style and system must always be the same.
I tried, on the one hand, to protect my team and make us more solid, and to move Luiz into central midfield. But on the other hand we lost our knowledge and style. I didn’t like this.
At the end the result was fair but, in the first half, we were 2-0 up. But we weren’t in control of the game. It’s right to take the responsibility for this.
Sometimes, you have to find the right solution to try to protect your team. Sometimes it’s good, sometimes it’s bad.
Conte also made similar comments to Viasport Fotball after the Roma game.

CONTE: – It wasn't good for me. I don't like to defend. I like to dominate.
