Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has been talking about one of his defenders and has explained why he could become a future Stamford Bridge captain.
The Italian may have come in for criticism this season but some of the positives come in the form of players he has blooded through.
The most promising player comes in the form of Andreas Christensen who has become a regular in the Chelsea defence.
The Danish player broke into the first team upon his return from Borussia Mönchengladbach in which he spent two years on loan.
Though, his breakthrough season hasn’t been without his mistakes.
Christensen was to blame for the goal that Barcelona scored in the first leg of the Champions League clash at Stamford Bridge.
The side conceded late into the game to give the Catalan side an away goal and a much better chance of progressing.
Though, his boss has defended him today and lauded praise on him.
‘Personally, I forgot this mistake,’ said Conte.
‘When you are a player, you can make a lot of mistakes in your career.
‘If I had to talk about all the mistakes I made in my career, we would have to be here for one day.
‘It doesn’t matter. Christensen is having a fantastic season and showing great maturity.
‘For me, apart from the mistake, his performance was great, was wonderful.
‘I have a lot of trust in Christensen. This player is a player for the present for Chelsea, and for Chelsea’s future for 10 or 12 years.
‘He can also become the captain of this team in the future.’
