Antonio Conte explains how Chelsea can knock Barcelona out of Europe

Resilience

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has explained how he thinks the club will be able to beat Barcelona, and admitted that they will need to be at their very best to get past Messi and co.

He noted that while they did well on the weekend against relegation threatened Crystal Palace they will need to be much stronger against the La Liga leaders and will have their work cut out for them, especially after conceding a goal in the first leg, which handed the advantage to Barcelona, and Chelsea know they will have to at least attack in some parts, as they have to of course get at least two goals to stand a chance of going through.

Standard Sport report Conte said: “We have to show great resilience.

“The game for sure will be totally different [to Crystal Palace] and we are playing against one of the best teams in the world. We must pay great attention and have the same focus and concentration of the first leg against Barcelona.

“I think we played a really great game, almost the perfect game if we didn’t concede the goal at the last. It won’t be easy, we have to know this and at the same time we have to try to find the right solution to play this game.

“The best way sometimes is to speak to the players, to try to find together the right plan to play this game.”

Messi

One player who Chelsea will have to stop is Lionel Messi, who of course has now scored against Chelsea and ended the so called curse against the Blues.

After missing the La Liga game on the weekend due to the birth of his latest son, Messi will be refreshed and want to get his side through to the draw on Thursday – and will have to be at his best to make sure that happens, with Barcelona looking to in not only the league but also the Champions League after seeing Real Madrid win it back to back.
