Football is a brutal sport when it comes to loyalty. It’s a results business and the results that it’s primarily concerned with are the ones that have most recently happened. That’s why Leicester decided to sack Claudio Ranieri.
He helped them to the most unlikely title triumph in English football history last season.
But this year, it’s been a relegation battle and the Foxes were forced into making a decision.
Antonio Conte has had a successful coaching career and looks on course to win the Premier League title. But he’s experienced hardship in management too, being sacked early in his career. Talking to the press on Friday morning, he told them of his disappointment about Ranieri, a friend of his, being sacked. He couldn’t hide his sadness.
“I’m really disappointed,” Conte told the media, “first of all because he’s a friend, a really good man and a really good manager. Only season ago, he won the title with the club, with the players. For sure, I’m disappointed.”
The Chelsea boss then said that he would wait a while before checking in with Ranieri. Watch below.
